About

Hi, I’m Sophia. I’m a software engineer based in NYC, currently working on banking infrastructure at Mercury. I’m interested in a little bit of everything, but these days I’m mostly excited by technically complex and ambitious missions in any field, design-forward products, and wearable technology.

Experience

Mercury

Apr 2024 - Present

Full-Stack Software Engineer

I work on the core banking team, building and maintaining the ACH and Checks infrastructure. Tech stack includes Haskell, Typescript, and React.

Recurse Center

Sep 2023 - Dec 2023

Participant

To grow my volitional muscles, I attended a creative programming residency where I challenged myself to ideate and implement a new project every 4 days. In the end, I worked across a number of languages (Rust, Elixir, Python, Golang, and JavaScript), libraries / tools (TensorFlow, Pytorch, NumPy and Jupyter), and domains (ML, AI, hardware, distributed systems, and HTTP).

Culdesac

May 2022 - Jul 2023

Software Engineer

At Culdesac, I helped build the first car-free community from scratch in the U.S., working full-stack across all product surfaces. I architected, implemented, and launched the payments platform that facilitated all financial transactions, from rent collection and maintenance fees to spot payments for neighborhood amenities like ebike rentals. Working in the bits-and-atoms space was rewarding, and I ultimately came away with a deep appreciation for urban design and walkable cities.

Software Engineer Intern

Mar 2020 - May 2022
Throughout grad school, I worked part-time at Culdesac. I implemented new features in the resident web application, leasing portal, and internal tools. On the data side, I setup and ran the data warehouse and pipelines that facilitated all quantitative reporting and built self-service dashboards for the operations and finance teams. I also dabbled in graphic design, creating an illustration of Tempe for a Culdesac giveaway.

Intel

Jan 2019 - Mar 2020

Software Engineer Intern

At Intel, I worked part-time throughout school semesters and full-time in the summer. I helped further the development of internal productivity tools and improved the reliability of legacy applications by building out a comprehensive unit-testing suite. I also became quite competitive at Foosball and perfected my bank shot.
